Going Green!
VDI inc. is making a conscious effort to move forward and become a consciously aware sustainable company. Sustainability is a term used to describe mankind's desire to sustain economic growth and environmental health well into the future. This is the idea of taking care of the earth and making it a better place through our built environment.
Wood:
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program is based on the premise that responsible environmental behavior and sound business decisions can co-exist to the benefit of landowners, manufacturers, shareholders, customers, the people they serve, the environment, and future generations. The SFI program integrates the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the protection of wildlife, plants, soil, water, and air quality. There are also options to choose woods that come from a chain of custody forest. This means that all fibers of the tree will be used; this is a cost effective option in the green movement.
Metal:
Metal construction products contribute considerably to the sustainable building movement. Its high recycled content, total recyclability, fully developed distribution network, and energy efficiency allow metal to qualify for points in the LEED program.
VDI will also continue the sustainable process in packaging of fixtures for shipping. We suggest fixtures be sent via blanket wrap service to avoid wasted packing materials. Sign holders and separate components that require packaging will be wrapped and padded with peanuts made of cornstarch that are 100% biodegradable and boxes of 10% or higher recycled materials.
